The Vice President of Development collaborates and coordinates with the Development Office and is responsible for raising approximately $15million annually in dedicated funds through individual major gifts, foundation, government, and corporate giving, as well as through special events. This role involves creating data-driven strategies for sustainable revenue growth opportunities and overseeing a team of 7 full-time employees. This is an on-site position in Washington DC.
Key Objectives:
The organization aims to secure over $50 million in new endowment commitments by 2031, growing the endowment to $100 million by its 100th anniversary. The Vice President will oversee this effort alongside the annual fundraising campaign.
Annual Fundraising:
-Develop and execute strategies to secure $15 million in annual donations, ensuring year-over year growth and sustainability.
-Identify financial objectives and key performance indicators (KPI) to achieve annual fundraising goals.
-Provide regular progress reports to senior leadership and the Board.
-Maintain relationships with Board leadership and collaborate with volunteer leaders to ensure alignment across the organization.
-Adapt long-range plans for success within established timelines.
-Implement best practices and data driven decision making in the annual fundraising operation.
-Attend events regularly to engage with donors and prospects.
-Oversee the organization’s annual gala and collaborate on growth goals.
Endowment Campaign:
-Development timelines and strategies to achieve endowment campaigns goals.
-Collaborate with leadership to create compelling case statement for fundraising.
-Share fundraising goals with leadership and Board members.
Strategic Planning:
-Create and implement a strategic plan for development, ensuring participation from various stakeholders.
-Identify key metrics for success and provide transparent progress reporting.
-Use the strategic plan to set annual departmental priorities in collaboration with senior leadership.
Team Management:
-Hire, lead, and manage a team of dedicated development professionals.
-Provide vision and leadership for prospect development functions, utilizing data-driven fundraising practices.
-Development strategies to expand funding pipelines and leverage technology for prospect identification.
-Oversee portfolio assignment processes and monitor performance to guide frontline staff in fundraising efforts.
-Ensuring continuous and transparent reporting of fundraising performance.
Key Qualifications
-Minimum of ten years of progressive fundraising experience in complex nonprofit organizations.
-Familiarity with the philanthropic industry and best practices in fundraising.
-Demonstrated knowledge of pipeline and contributed revenue growth, endowment fundraising, prospect research, donor stewardship, and philanthropy operations.
