Clearance: Ability to Obtain North Wind Solutions is a Government contracting small business with operations at military and civilian installations across the United States. The company's focus is facilities operation and maintenance, waste management and radiological services, security control and force protection, and environmental services.
POSITION PURPOSE: North Wind Solutions is seeking two proactive and dynamic Software Engineering Interns to join our team at the Hanford Site, a significant US Federal environmental restoration site in Richland, Washington, managed by the Department of Energy. This internship offers a unique opportunity for college students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Software Quality Assurance (SQA) processes, while contributing to the Hanford Cleanup Mission. Interns will collaborate with experienced professionals to support and enhance the software development, testing, and deployment processes at the Hanford Site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Interns will collaborate with North Wind Software Engineers on custom software development, testing, and deployment projects, as well as support Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) software. Potential duties during the internship include:
- Code Development: Assist in writing, testing, and debugging code for new or existing applications.
- Software Testing: Help perform software testing to find and resolve issues before the product goes live. This could involve unit testing, integration testing, or assisting with user acceptance testing.
- Documentation: Contribute to technical documentation for software applications.
- Research: Conduct research on new technologies, software frameworks, or development tools and present findings to the team.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members (software engineers, UX designers, product managers, etc.) to understand requirements and implement solutions.
- Bug Fixes: Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues in the software.
- Code Reviews: Participate in code reviews to learn from senior developers and to ensure the quality of code.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: - Must be currently enrolled, or a recent graduate of an accredited degree-seeking program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field and have an overall GPA of 3.0
- Basic understanding of computer programming principles, concepts, and methodologies.
- Experience in a customer service role.
Skills and Abilities: - Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a remote environment.
- Self-motivated and able to manage tasks independently when required.
Special Requirements: - US citizenship or permanent residency required for eligibility to work on federal projects.
- Must pass pre-employment background check.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Proficient in one or more of the major programming languages such as JavaScript, C#, Python, or equivalent
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: - This position is primarily sedentary in nature.
- The work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: - The work environment is primarily an office setting or remote work from home.
- The noise level in the work environment is typically low.
