The Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Research Associate positions in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of disease- and outcome-focused epidemiology, exposure-focused epidemiology, life stage-focused epidemiology, health behavior, healthcare delivery & health equity, and/or the design, evaluation, and application of research methods. Applicants with interests in other research areas will also be considered. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Applicants must have a minimum of two years of post-doctoral professional or research experience or equivalent. The successful applicant will have a degree in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.
Responsibilities include conducting innovative research in informatics, communicating scientific results via scientific publications and conferences, collaborating within and outside the department, co-mentor students and trainees.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to develop independence in research through writing peer-reviewed publications for research conferences and journals and through writing national institutes of health (NIH) grants.
The successful candidate will show expertise in at least one of the following areas: artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, clinical informatics, clinical research informatics, complex adaptive systems, computational biology, consumer health informatics, data integration, data science, genomics, imaging informatics, machine learning, natural language processing, nursing informatics, public health informatics, text mining, and translational bioinformatics.
