Role: Lead Mulesoft Platform Engineer III

Location: Remote Role USA

Duration: 1 Year of contract to begin with possible extension

Overview

Seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Lead Mulesoft Platform Engineer to join our Enterprise Integration Services (EIS) platform team.

In this position, you will leverage your expertise in systems integration and MuleSoft technologies to design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performing integration solutions.

You will work closely with stakeholders across business and IT functions to define integration strategies and guide technical execution, while leading a team of developers to deliver complex integration solutions using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.

As the Lead Mulesoft Platform Engineer, you will be "point person" in the execution of a project to migrate a suite of internal and external facing web services from the IBM DataPower platform to Mulesoft. This position will require you to drive the architectural vision, and best practices for the new integrations, provide leadership and guidance to a third-part project team primarily responsible for the services development, and occasionally be hands-on in developing, deploying, and maintaining MuleSoft-based APIs and integrations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mulesoft Development & Leadership
  • Lead the design and development of MuleSoft-based integration solutions, including APIs, connectors, and microservices.
  • Architect reusable components and libraries to standardize and streamline development efforts
  • Mentor and guide a team of 3 rd party developers, ensuring adherence to coding standards, performance optimization, and quality assurance practices.
  • Oversee the development lifecycle, from design to deployment, ensuring timely delivery and operational stability of integration solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex integration issues and provide advanced technical support during implementation and post-deployment
  • Integration Architecture & Strategy
  • Design and implement comprehensive integration solutions to meet business needs, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Define and enforce best practices for integration design, implementation, and governance.
  • Work closely with business analysts, solution architects, and development teams to gather requirements and create integration roadmaps.
  • Ensure the integration architecture aligns with overall enterprise architecture and IT strategy
  • Collaboration and Communications
  • Act as a technical liaison between business stakeholders, solution architects, and the development team to ensure that integration requirements are well understood and met.
  • Provide guidance and subject matter expertise on MuleSoft and integration best practices to team members and other technical groups.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure that integrations are aligned with organizational goals and technological trends.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise integration, including significant hands-on experience with MuleSoft.
  • 2+ years in a leadership or architect-level role within an integration or software development team.
  • Experience with cloud-based systems and applications, including SaaS integrations and hybrid architectures.
  • Strong background in integrating enterprise applications (e.g., ERP, CRM, HRIS) and external APIs

Qualifications

Can be fully remote, but must be open to traveling to either Lynchburg or Newport occasionally. Less than 25%, but may be more initially.

  • Extensive experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, including Anypoint Studio, Mule Runtime, API Management, and Anypoint Design Center.
  • Strong proficiency in API-led connectivity, microservices architecture, and cloud integration (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with SOAP, RESTful web services, JSON, XML, and OAuth.
  • Strong knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools in the integration space.
  • Strong ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate with technical teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a deep understanding of complex integration challenges and how to address them.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MuleSoft Certified Developer (Mule 4) or MuleSoft Certified Architect.
  • Expertise in integration patterns, such as ETL, real-time messaging, batch processing, and event-driven architectures.
  • Familiarity with Java and other programming languages used in integration development (e.g., JavaScript, Groovy).
  • Experience with additional integration tools or platforms (e.g., Dell Boomi, Informatica, Tibco, etc.).
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices deployment.
