Job Description

Position Summary:

The Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive officer of Loudoun Serenity House and is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of the organization. This includes supervising key senior staff, particularly the Director of Client Services and the Director of Development, and ensuring alignment across program delivery, fundraising, and grant management. The ED serves as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors and is the face of the organization in the community and with stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Organizational Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide vision and strategic leadership to ensure alignment with the mission and long-term sustainability of Loudoun Serenity House.
  • Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates, strategic input, and support for governance and development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and compassion across the organization.
  • Staff Oversight & Program Management
  • Lead and support the Director of Client Services to ensure effective delivery of recovery support programs and sober living services.
  • Oversee program evaluation and development to ensure services are meeting the needs of clients and achieving outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and quality standards for sober living environments.

Fundraising, Grant Management & Development

  • Partner with the Director of Development to execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including individual giving, corporate partnerships, events, and campaigns.
  • Oversee all grant management activities, including identifying funding opportunities, ensuring timely application submission, and reporting outcomes to funders.
  • Cultivate relationships with donors, foundations, government agencies, and community partners to grow financial support and visibility.

Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget in collaboration with staff and the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure responsible financial stewardship and adherence to nonprofit accounting best practices.
  • Oversee facilities, vendor contracts, and operational infrastructure to support organizational growth.
  • Community Engagement & Advocacy
  • Serve as a spokesperson for Loudoun Serenity House, effectively communicating the organization’s mission, impact, and needs to the public.
  • Build relationships with community leaders, recovery networks, and advocacy groups to expand the organization’s reach and influence.

Board Relations:

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to set organizational goals and policies.
  • Provide regular updates on operations, finances, and strategic initiatives.
  • Assist in board development and governance activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of senior management experience in a nonprofit organization, preferably in substance abuse recovery or housing services.
  • Proven track record in fundraising, grant writing, and financial management.
  • Strong knowledge of sober living environments and recovery support services.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite as well as familiarity with donor and grant management software, Givebutter, Bloomerang and Instrumentl.

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
