Events Manager

The Events Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, executing and evaluating all special events at United Way. This position ensures a strong brand presence for United Way at key community-wide functions. Additionally, this role will oversee and execute special projects. This position reports to the Director of Brand Management & Community Engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates all aspects of event management;

  • Works with various departments to implement events targeting Giving Communities and the United Way;

  • Researches, identifies event opportunities, and negotiates with a diverse group of external vendors to procure goods and services for events;

  • Manages program budget development, compliance with financial and program reporting;

  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with key funders and partners.

  • Participates in Legacy grant Girls in Sports programming (two annual events) to ensure integration with the year round programming expansion;

  • Develops new partnerships and strengthens existing collaborative relationships with universities, schools, community and faith-based organizations;

  • Recruits and directs volunteers as needed;

  • Ensures compliance with current regulations that provide for the safety and security of individuals participating in program activities;

  • Compiles program statistics & pre & post surveys for key events

  • Attends mandatory organizational, departmental and committee meetings

  • Supports the organization's diversity, equity and inclusion efforts;

  • Visibly demonstrates UW values of service, integrity, collaboration, accountability, equity & agility;

  • Performs general office duties such as typing, filing, data entry, opening mail, etc;

  • Engages in job-related travel to designated trainings, meetings and events;

  • Maintains established departmental policies, procedures and objectives;

  • Performs other duties as requested.

Education, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, hospitality management, or a related field, with three years of relevant experience or equivalent.

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Experience with athletics, fitness, youth sports, youth development and/or after school programming preferred.

  • Experience with program design, development, implementation and retention.

  • Experience with collaboration of schools, universities, community agencies, parks and recreation, and faith based organizations.

  • Excellent analytical and presentation skills.

  • Project management, organization and time management skills.

  • Good listening skills and ability to work in a team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel; proficiency in G Suite apps including Docs and Sheets.
